AHIFMinister of Culture, Dr. Hirut Kassaw, said that Ethiopia is not benefiting enough from its potential resources of tourism.

She made the remark on day two of the 2019 edition of Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF), opened in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa yesterday.

The Minister said both Ethiopia and Africa are not taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the tourism industry.

However, Dr. Hirut said, the Government of Ethiopia is now taking various initiatives to increase tourism in the country.

AHIF is the premier hotel investment conference in Africa, attracting many prominent international hotel owners, investors, financiers, management companies, and their advisers.

The Forum attracted participants from more than 52 countries.

Privatization EthiotelecomMinistry Invites Advisory Firms for Partial Privatization of Ethio Telecom.

Briefing journalists, Finance State Minister Eyob Tekalegn said,“We have issued an expression of interest to hire a transaction advisory firm to lead the partial privatization of ethio telecom.”

The request for expressions of interest for a transaction advisor firm for the process of patrial privatization of ethio telecom posted today on the website of the ministry will be closed after two weeks.

Public Enterprises Holding and Administration Agency will select and probably engage the consulting firm on November 1, 2019, Eyob added.

Ethio telecom has hired the international firm KPMG recently to support the valuation and sales process.

The state minister further revealed that the process of privatizing sugar factories is underway and energy reform roadmap is being finalized.

Ethio construction ExhibitionThe 16th Ethio-con international building and construction exhibition opened in Addis Ababa today.

Minister of Urban Development and Construction, Engineer Aisha Mohammed, other officials and stakeholders attended the opening ceremony.

The four-day event would contribute a lot towards bringing together stakeholders to share experiences and promote new technologies, said the Minister.

Ethio SudanThe Ethio-Sudan business forum started in Addis Ababa today in the presence of ministers, ambassadors, and stakeholders from both sides.

In his opening remark, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, said the forum is vital to boost the trade ties between the two countries.

Wajdi Mirghani, President of the National Chamber of Exporters of Sudan, thanked Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia for his contribution in promoting peace in Sudan.

People of the two countries have strong social, political, and economic relations, he said.

UK AviationThe UK Trade Commissioner for Africa, Emma Wade-Smith, said the UK is keen to work with Ethiopia in the aviation industry.

During her visit to Ethiopian Airlines today, the Commissioner remarked that the UK is keen to work with Ethiopian including in the expansion project and management of the Airlines.

The Commissioner visited Ethiopian Airlines state-of-the-art facilities and held discussion with executive management of the Airlines.

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the largest and the fastest growing African Global Aviation Group, has been expanding its international destinations which have now reached 125. Marseille, Garowe and Beira are the new international destinations launched recently.
